SAN DIEGO PADRES
82-63 W/L, 40-31 Road, 6-4 Last Ten Games
Stauffers 4-3 record and a 1.54 ERA might sound like this is the team to back, but I am of the opinion that he has overachieved and will get beaten this evening on his visit to St. Louis.
The Padres will open a 4 game series with the Cardinals, and I feel the price here on the Cardinals is good value, owing to Stauffers great numbers and the recent sweep loss suffered by the Cardinals.
The fact is the Cardinals have beaten San Diego in 31 of the last 39 games played here in St. Louis.
ST. LOUIS CARDINALS
74-70 W/L, 43-27 Home, 3-7 Last Ten Games
I'm taking the Cardinals today, who start Jake Westbrook. 7-10 with a 4.41ERA this season, and is actually coming into this following a stinker in his last game, when he walked 5 batters! He had just become a dad, so perhaps that's where his head was.
Either way, he will need to do well as the Cards are now 7 games behind division leaders Cincinnati, and have to win to keep pace.
It's the offence that I'm betting on today. They are capable of big things and recently went on a scoring run, 38 in just 7 games, over 5 a game. That quietened down a bit recently as the team has slumped to a sweep by the visiting Chicago Cubs, getting outscored 19-6.
BETTING VERDICT
Sixty-one of the last 84 meetings between these 2 sides have been won by the Cardinals.
Add to that the Cardinals great record in head to head matches played at home, and you feel surely they come through here.
Keep stakes low, but at this price a nibble at St. Louis is well worth it.
The Pick :
Cardinals to win!
BEST BETTING TIP :
Take the St. Louis Cardinals to win @ 1.90 (Pinnacle)
