FC Twente v Internazionale
Football : Europe : UEFA Champions League

FC Twente

FC Twente are opening in their Champions League debut with a home match against current Champions League holders Inter.

Twente had trouble scoring in their first two domestic matches in Holland against Roda JC and Heerenveen, which both ended goalless.

After switching to a system with both strikers de Jong and Janko in the line-up, three wins have followed after this decision, against Vitesse, FC Utrecht and on Saturday VVV Venlo was beaten 2-1.

Twente tries to play with more variation than last season, with more movement on midfield and defensive wingers attacknig down the flanks. These new tactics were implemented by new manager Michel Preud'homme, and are not completely taken over by the group yet.

Twente has a stable defense and conceded a first goal this season after keeping clean 400 minutes by a penalty kick of VVV. But in the offense they are relying too much on brilliant actions of Bryan Ruiz, and new signings Janko and Chadli are still adapting.

Manager Preud'homme stated the Champions League is great to be in, but the Eredivisie is the biggest goal at the moment. Of course this is said to put them in the underdog role even more, and they will do everything they can to reach the next round, or the third place for Europa League.

The players respect Inter Milan for their achievements, but once started I doubt they eill give them too much respect, and will fight for at least a point. Also it is stated Twente will not play too defensive and might attack more than usual.

In my opinion all pre-match talk that can be ignored, cause once playing Inter will turn out to be the better team and defending a point will be the realistic target for this match.

Internazionale

Inter Milan's season started with the match for the European Super Cup, where they lost against Atletico Madrid in Monaco. Just as Twente, Inter has a new manager in the form of well-known Rafa Benitez.

The first match of the Serie A season was a disappointing goalless draw at Bologna, before winning 2-1 at home against Udinese on saturday. Lucio scored the opener and Eto'o scored the match winning goal following a penalty kick.

Confidence for this match will be pretty high, but so far Inter hasn't convinced the critics. They play their usual game, and that game has brought success last year. But fact is they don't create chance after chance every match, and in certain matches they tend to accpet the fact a minimum goal scored can be enough. This results in matches that are far from spectacular, and without many action.

As titleholders Inter will only accept another good season in the Champions League, and the quarter/semi finals are a minimal target this season. Twente is not a big name, and this might tend them to underestimate the opponent a bit.

For this match Maicon is included in the squad after missing out the first two league matches. Tiago Motta is out for this match and Dejan Stankovic is still doubtful. Maicon is an important player for Inter who brings more offensive power with his rushes, and when he plays it will make things a bit harder for Twente probably.

At this point I have no clue whether he is going to be involved tommorow night.

The Betting Verdict

What awaits us is a match where Inter will probably give initiative to Twente, making the game themselves in phases in the match.

Twente is not at their best when they have to make the play themself, and are still in a build-up process where attacks are not going smooth all the time. A good result will be depending on their ability to hold out Inter, and their will to battle and fight on midfield.

Goals at Twente are not a cert, and this will pretty much depend on the form of main man Bryan Ruiz, and striker de Jong. Inter are still a world class team, but I have my doubts about their intentions here, and expecting to play patient knowing their chance will come here.

Champions League matches tend to start pretty cautious, and I'm expecting a goalless first half. After this a goal can be decisive, and I'm going for the under here.

My main bet will be under 2.5 goals @ 1.70, and I'm having a side bet 0-0 at halftime.
