A Sports Betting Pick by Shady

Brazil v Chile
Football : FIFA World Cup 2010 : Second Round
Monday, 28th June 2010 - Kickoff 8:30pm local
(7:30pm BST / 2:30pm ET)

Brazil :

For the eighth consecutive time Brazil have topped their group in the World Cup. However Dunga was not too pleased with his side’s performance against Portugal. No doubt they got the draw they needed to top their group but their overall contribution of the players in that game have been way below average.

Kaka was suspended and Robinho was rested for the last game and I believe both these duo are well rested ahead of this game. This might be a key factor in the outcome of this game as more often than not the players freshness or fitness might play a crucial role at the later stages of the game.

Both Kaka and Robinho have not hit their best form in the World Cup and now might just be the time they hit full throttle as both Brazilians have plenty to prove following a disappointing season with their respective clubs.

Maicon and Bastos have been effective in going forward and they are expected to do the same here. No doubt both Bastos and Maicon started the game against Portugal, but it was clear that Dunga’s instruction was not to get too tired as both of them did not run as much as they did against Ivory Coast or North Korea.

Chile :

Chile will be missing the central paring in defense and this does not look good at all for Marcelo Bielsa side. With his best players out on field, Chile has also leaked in goals in the qualifiers and now without his first choice defenders, this definitely does not look good for the Chileans.

However the positive news for Marcelo Bielsa would be he will welcome back Matias Fernandas and Carmona back the starting line up following their recent suspension against Spain. A massive boost to his attacking options as Fernandas is Bielsa key player in unlocking opponent’s defense.

Alexis Sanchez will be Marcelo Bielsa key threat going up front as the Udinese striker has put in some solid performance in this World Cup.

However in his last game against Spain, Sanchez looked a bit tired and might have just ran out of steam and this could be a worrying sign for Chilean fans as Sanchez attempted more dribbles than any other player in group stages.

Probable Line Up :

Brazil Probable Starting Line-up :
Julio Cesar, Maicon, Lucio, Juan, Bastos, Gilberto Silva, Melo, Kaka, Robinho, Dani Alves/Elano and Fabiano.

Chile Probable Starting Line-up :
Bravo, Isla, Jara, Fuentes, Contreras, Carmona, Vidal, Fernandas, Carmona, Sanchez and Suazo

Head to Head :

GOMNEBOL qualifying is played with a huge series of games and these sides clashed twice. Brazil defeated Chile both home and away with a pair of convincing 4-2 and 3-0 score lines.

Last Six Matches betwen Brazil and Chile :
2006 World Cup Qualifier - Brazil 5 : 0 Chile
2007 International Friendly - Brazil 4 : 0 Chile
2007 Copa America(Group) - Brazil 3 : 0 Chile
2007 Copa America(Q/Final) - Brazil 6 : 1 Chile
2010 World Cup Qualifier - Brazil 4 : 2 Chile
2010 World Cup Qualifier - Chile 0 : 3 Brazil

That's a total of 25 goals for Brazil - averaging over 4 goals a game against Chile in their last six meetings - and never less than 3 goals.

The Betting Verdict :

With Brazil excellent going up front and the late runs especially from Kaka, Robinho and Elano, Chile might have problems in handling them. Lucio and Juan have been rock solid in this World Cup and Humberto Suazo and co will find it difficult to pass them.

Alex Sanchez have shown the World that he has talent and his ability to run around defenders. However more often than not, his hard work has gone down to the drain due to his poor decision or the inability of his teammates to support him.

To be honest, Brazil are a little bit overrated in this World Cup. They are one of the front runners in winning the World Cup but in the group stages, they have only played well against Ivory Coast.

However with Chile known for their weak defense line and with central pairing Medel and Punce suspended, i do not see how things would improve for the Chilean side, and I can only see one outcome in this game.

Brazil are not only going to win this game but I see them winning by a 3 goal score line.

Best Regards,
