David Price will climb all the way to the top of the mound when the Tampa Bay Rays host the Arizona Diamondbacks in Saturday afternoon baseball. It's a lot like Friday afternoon baseball, except it has that "weekendy" feel. I like weekends.
Price is 10-3 with a very tidy 2.45ERA, with 8 of his 14 starts going under the total. He is also 4-1 with an even tidier 1.94ERA in 6 home starts, with 4 of those 6 games going under the total. Yes, I realise you've guessed where I'm going with this, but please, humour me.
Anyhoo ... Price faces the Arizona Diamondbacks for the 1st time in his career this afternoon. Arizona has been struggling lately on the offensive side of the game, scoring just 23 runs in their last 7 road games.
Tonight's pitcher, Price is (Fisher Price? heh!) erm, yeh, Price! He's pretty solid and seeing as they don't know his stuff, he should do well.
Arizona Diamondbacks
Ian Kennedy will do the mound thang for Arizona and he's been a bit of a surprise package for the D-Backs. He is 3-5 with a 3.60ERA in 15 starts and he has seen his games go under in 3 straight starts, giving up just 9 runs in his last 19.2 innings pitched.
Kennedy has faced his opponents before, but that last match was back in 2008 when he was still a Yankee. That's a long time. People change. They won't remember him. He'll be able to surprise them with his super awesome secret pitching.
Carlos Pena, Carl Crawford, Jason Bartlett, Evan Longoria, Dioner Navarro and Ben Zobrist have poor career numbers against Kennedy. Also, Carl Crawford might not even play as he has a few niggles that might keep him on a bench.
Any hitter that gets benched just makes the Tampa Bay offence weaker, making the Over more and more difficult. The Rays have scored just 38 runs over their last 11 games, so I expect more of that here in Tampa Bay this afternoon.
