World Cup

2010-06-27 - England vs Germany

A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser

Analysis:

There will be no love lost when Enfland meets Germany in the second round of the World Cup at Bloemfontein. In the last 20 years this will be the third meeting these two sides are facing each other. England does not have a good record against the Germans it must be noted here.

In the 1990 World Cup in Italy and Euro 96 England suffered penalty shoot-out heartache, falling at the semi-final stage on each occasion.

It is hard to separate these two sides as both have not been firing on all cylinders during the group stages. Even though Germany started with a 4-0 thrashing of Australia, but they then lost 1-0 to Serbia and could only managed a 1-0 win over Ghana.

England meanwhile started out with a 1-1 draw against United States, and followed that up with a poor goalless draw against Algeria. And then they had to thank Jermain Defoe as he scored the only goal as England beat Slovenia to made it into the knockout stages.

Capello must make a decision if to stay with the same side that got him into the knockout stages or to reshuffle his pack once again. Jamie Carragher will be back from suspension, while Ledley King could come back into contention after a groin problem.

James Milner did well on the right wing last time out and is likely to continue, while Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Gareth Barry are likely to be in the side once again. Defoe should be able to keep his place in the side after scoring against Slovenia while Joe Cole could be drafted in if Capello decides to abandon his 4-4-2 formation.

In attack Wayne Rooney will start this match and has been certified fit despite an ankle knock in their last match.

For Germany, Bastian Schweinsteiger picked up a thigh strain against Ghana and he is now doubtful for this match. Jerome Boateng is also a major doubt, after he sustained a calf injury in their final match. The good news is that playmaker-in-chief Mesut Ozil is expected to start this match having shaken off a twisted ankle.

In attack look no further then Miroslav Klose after he is back in the side after serving his one match suspension for collecting a red card.

Take England not to lose this match.

Cheers and good luck,
Cruiser
