World Cup
2010-06-24 - Denmark vs Japan
A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser
Analysis:Both Japan and Denmark knows this is a do or die game for them to enter the last 16 of the knockout stages. As it stands now both sides have managed three points heading into this match at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium but it is the Japanese who occupy the all-important second qualifying spot behind leaders Holland.
That could only mean that Denmark requires nothing other than a win to book their spot in second round, while anything else will see their opponents, from the land of the rising sun advance to the last 16 of the World Cup.
Morten Olsen's men head to Rustenburg after beating Cameroon 2-1 despite losing to Netherlands 2-0 in their opening match due to some poor defending.
Meanwhile Japan started their campaign with a surprise 1-0 win over Cameroon, while they were beaten by Netherlands after a superb strike by Wesley Sneijder's long-range goal.
Denmark will look to the likes of Nicklas Bendtner, Dennis Rommedahl and Jesper Gronkjaer to steer them to a win here. Japan on the other hand, will rely on Veteran Yuji Nakazawa and defensive partner Marcus Tanaka Tulio to do well if they are to get a result while midfield talisman Keisuke Honda - being used as a lone striker will want to add to the goal he scored in his opening match against Cameroon.
As for the team news, Denmark's motivational defender Simon Kjaer will miss this match through suspension after collecting two bookings against Netherlands and Cameroon. While Japanese coach Okada has virtually a full squad at his disposal with defender Yasuyuki Konno the only doubt for this match.
The last time they met was back in 1971 went Denmark won 3-2. Also take note that the fact that Japan have never won a World Cup finals game in which their opponents have scored will be something Denmark coach Olsen will take advantage of.
Also take note that Japan have a poor record in scoring in the World Cup Finals as they have scored only nine goals in 12 World Cup games.
