Neither of these sides are safe from the threat of relegation as Bologna are 16th with 35 points whilst Lazio are 17th, one point behind. But the danger for either side is that Atalanta who is in 18th spot have 31 points and are in very good form with three wins in their last four games.

So it is suffice to say that whiche ver team that loses out at the Stadio Dall’Ara could find themselves locked in a struggle to survive with Atalanta chasing below them.

But Lazio will start as favourites here. They have lost just one of their last five fixtures while in contrast Bologna have avoided defeat only once in their last five.

Coach Edy Reja will be confident of bringing Lazio to safety with the 3-5-2 formation he enjoyed with Napoli before. Lazio must get a result here as there is still the Rome derby to come, a visit to Genoa and a home date with Inter to come still. Reja’s dilemma is whether to field Tommaso Rocchi or Mauro Zarate alongside in-form Sergio Floccari up front.

Meanwhile Bologna climbed into mid-table thanks to much improved displays and results after the turn of the year but now risk slipping back into the dreaded drop zone due to a poor run of results of late.

Franco Colomba’s charges have lost their last four League matches. A few weeks ago they were doing well and now looks dangerously close to the drop. On the plus side they have a very favourable list of remaining games left to go.

The home side are without Vangelis Moras and Nicola Mingazzini for this match. But for Lazio, they have a huge injury list in the form of Ousmane Dabo, Mourad Meghni, Francelino Matuzalem, Pasquale Foggia, Albano Bizzarri, Simone Inzaghi and Christian Manfredini all unavailable. Meanwhile Stephan Lichtsteiner is suspended for this match.
