Hull return to the KC stadium and continue their fight for Premier League survival
Hull City
Iain Dowie’s side blew their chance of picking up their first away win of the season, as they let in two late goals and went down 3-2 to Portsmouth, probably the easiest away fixture on their list. The new manager will not have been impressed, as the defending was suicidal and the team seems like one that is always vulnerable when playing defence. Hull have now conceded 13 goals in their last 4 games. Abysmal.
The 2 goals they did score, were encouraging, as this is a side that has struggled all seasons up front. That has obviously led to the team not managing to keep up with other teams, leaving them in 19th place, with only Portsmouth worse off. Since November last year, Hull have picked up only ONE win, in February, where they stunned Manchester City 2-1.
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that was more down to a freak result rather than proof of Hulls strength. Since that lucky win, the Tigers have gone on a run of 5 consecutive losses, sometimes from positions where they should have drawn or even won. That’s not encouraging for any bettor, knowing this team can self destruct at any moment.
The home form however, has been better than the away form, with only 2 defeats in 11 games at the KC stadium. Last year, the team managed to beat Fulham, so perhaps that might give them confidence. They have to capitalise on Fulham’s recent loss to Tottenham and register a win here, for only 3 points will get them to a position where they can imagine surviving the drop.
Fulham
Fulham are having a dream season, recently tonking the mighty Juventus 4-1 at home. But their last match ended in hearbreak as they crashed out of the FA Cup to Tottenham in a replay where they led 1-0 after dominating the first half. Spurs played them off the park in the second half and they went down 3-1, the chance for a Wembley appearance up in smoke.
Hodgeson had already said that his priorities now are the FA Cup, and the Europa League. The Cup dream is over, but how much of a hangover this team suffers remains to be seen. The big worry here is that it might make a bad situation worse for Fulham, as they have been quite poor on their travels. Their only away win was on day 1 of the season, at Portsmouth, which isn’t saying much. The Cottagers have scored a mere 11 goals away from home all season, which is the worst in the league. Last season saw them come to the KC Stadium and lose 2-1.
However, Fulham do have a bright spark in the form of Bobby Zamora, who has turned into a bit of a goalscoring machine lately. He seems hell bent on getting himself on the plane to South Africa, and I would not be surprised at all if he added to his tally against a Hull side that can’t defend to save their lives. If Fulham do get anything out of this game, it will be through Bobby.
THe Betting Verdict :
Hull will fight for their lives here, as nothing but three points will do, and I think they will definitely score, perhaps even twice, like last year.
However, with Fulham always dangerous, I wouldn’t like to bet on a side, but I am confident that they score here too. So the bets, which I recommend you keep small, will be placed bearing that in mind.
