2010-03-06 - Wolverhampton vs Manchester United

Analysis:Manchester United can go back to the top of the Premiership as Chelsea is not playing this weekend but their preparations have been dealt a blow by the news that Wayne Rooney is a doubt for this clash.
United are coming into this match fresh from the 2-1 Carling Cup Final win over Aston Villa and can go ahead of Chelsea since the Blues are playing in the FA Cup this weekend.
The initial clash at Old Trafford was big news as Wolves boss Mick McCarthy put out an under-strength side to keep them fresh for the clash with Burnley five days later. The move paid off but eventually handed a suspended fine for their actions, and this time around McCarthy will definitely put out a stronger side at home now. They have only managed two wins in their last ten games so will want to get an upset win at home against their more fancied opponents.
As it is now Wolves are just one place off the relegation zone but will remember that back in 2004 they did beat United 1-0 thanks to a Kenny Miller's goal.
As for the team news ahead of this game, Rooney is doubtful after picking up a knock in England's 3-1 win ov er Egypt in midweek. It has not been helped by the fact that striker Michael Owen will be out for the rest of the season after sustaining a hamstring injury in the clash against Villa for the Carling Cup Final which he scored as well.
But the good news is England captain Rio Ferdinand is fit to return and should start in the centre of defence alongside Nemanja Vidic after recovering from his back problem. Nani returns from suspension however, centre-back Jonny Evans is out after picking up an injury while on international duty with Northern Ireland and Ryan Giggs stays sidelined with a broken arm.
As for the home side Wolves, McCarthy is likely to name an unchanged side for the visit of Manchester United. That means that Andy Keogh is set be in the squad again after following ankle surgery. The Irish striker came off the bench to play a part in their 1-0 defeat at Bolton but will remain on the bench as Kevin Doyle will be preferred here.
Michael Kightly is out with an injury to his knee, while Dave Edwards remains sidelined following an ankle operation last December.
Take Manchester United to win here but just by a slim margin.
Cheers and good luck,
