Saturday 6th March 2010 – Kickoff 3pm
I must say I’m absolutely astounded at the odds on offer here – second-placed Bournemouth at home to a team who have not won an away game in six matches, priced at 1.92 with Pinnacle!
If there’s value on offer for a team who are second in the league playing at home, count me in! And when I break it down in greater detail, the odds look a very attractive proposition..
AFC Bournemouth (2nd) Home 10-3-4 21:15
With twelve games left, it is all in Bournemouth’s hands if they are to be promoted to League One. Earlier in the season, they took a commanding lead at the top before Rochdale put together six wins on the trot and consequently have enjoyed top spot for quite a few weeks now.
Anyway, back to The Cherries and they are four games unbeaten at home currently, despite suffering a temporary setback against Northampton Town 0-2 and Bury 1-2. and have held onto second place, but only one point seperates them from the aforementioned Bury.
Their home record stands at 10-3-4 21/15, and their success so far is largely due to the exploits of striker Brett Pitman (17 goals), while veteran forward Steve Fletcher (5 goals, 6 assists) has also made a valuable contribution. It’s also worth noting that midfielder Danny Hollands (6 goals) should be fit to return against Morecambe today.
Morecambe (11th) Away : 3-7-6 21:28
Onto Morecambe, and the Lancashire outfit have not registered an away win in six matches now which has had manager Sammy McIlroy scratching his head.
They have drawn a blank in their last two; 0-2 at Cheltenham Town and 0-0 at Bury (which is a creditable result), but I feel the run could well be extended to seven games without a win at the Fitness First Stadium.
Morecambe’s away record stands at 3-7-6 21/28, but they will be without two key defenders for the trip down South; Lawrence Wilson (3 goals, 4 assists) and Danny Adams (released) will be missing, although midfielder Stewart Drummond (9 goals) is expected to play.
The pivotal player for Morecambe is undoubtedly Phil Jevons (16 goals, 5 assists) who is enjoying a prolific season, matching his form when at Yeovil Town previously (where he scored 42 goals in two seasons for them).
The Betting Verdict
If Bournemouth are to win, they must keep Jevons quiet, but the difference in this one I fancy is the key defensive omissions for Morecambe.
