Analysis:Wigan in 16th spot meets Bolton second from the bottom as they meet in this crucial encounter at the DW Stadium. Despite the three places separating each side, both teams are separated by just a point going into this match.
A win for Wigan would see them rise to 13th - dragging Sunderland into the relegation battle no doubt. However, Bolton can pull out of the bottom three and go as high as 14th, a move of five places from second bottom should they get the win here, that is how tight it is at the bottom end.
But wins have been hard to come by for these two sides of late. For the home side, Wigan's last victory came six games ago at Wolves. On the other hand, Bolton's last success came in Owen Coyle's first game in charge against former club Burnley last month.
As for the team news, Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has said he will not rush January transfer window signing Victor Moses into starting this match. The Spaniard wants to ease the former Crystal Palace man into Premier League life following his switch from Championship side Crystal Palace. So at best he will start is from the bench.
Marcelo Moreno Martins, who was brought in January could feature in attack in search of his first goal since his loan move from Shakhtar Donetsk. Martinez could be without the in-form James McCarthy, who is rated as 50-50 as he picked up a hamstring injury in the draw with Stoke.
As for the visitors Bolton, there has been concerns regarding centre-back pairing Zat Knight and Gary Cahill emerged which could caused Coyle selection problems here.
Cahill was expected to be out for the season after a blood clot was discovered in his arm, however the problem is not as bad as first feared. The 24-year-old will definitely miss out, with Knight set to undergo a late fitness test to see if he can recover from a calf problem.
Coyle is also without Sean Davis (knee), Ivan Klasnic (calf), Gavin McCann (thigh) and Joey O'Brien (knee) for this clash.
