Regular readers of my previews will know that I rarely pick the away team in matches, simply as there’s usually too much risk of a loss or even the draw - until now.
Now, I could be wrong about this one, but when I saw this fixture then checked the odds, I had to include this in my midweek selections.
Stockport County (24th) Home : 1-2-8 11:16
Stockport County have been absolutely dreadful at their Edgeley Park home this season, having only won the solitary match against Leyton Orient 2-1 back in September last year.
Since then, they have had a wretched run of seven games without a win, having lost their last six on the trot, with their defence shipping 18 goals in the process.
Their home record stands at a dire 1-2-8 11:16, and they are staring almost certain relegation in the face as they need to pick up points at home, and quick.
Striker Carl Baker (9 goals) is their stand-out threat, but aside from him I can’t see too many players making any headway against a confident Swindon side.
Swindon Town (6th) Away : 4-4-3 15:18
Swindon Town had a good game at the weekend seeing off Gillingham 3-1 in a comfortable victory.
We look at their away form now which is okay, they recently lost 0-3 at Bristol Rovers and 0-1 at Norwich City but that’s kind of expected when you consider Rovers’ and in particular, Norwich’s home form to date.
However, Swindon did record victories over Tranmere Rovers 4-1 and 1-0 at Carlisle United recently, so they don’t mind travelling up north either.
The Robins’ away record is 4-4-3 15/18, but not as bad as first reads when you take into account away games at Bristol Rovers & Norwich as mentioned previously.
THe Betting Verdict
To summarise, I reckon it’s worth taking the away side in this instance, particularly given that Swindon are in confident mood and a win here puts them 5 points clear of MK Dons who are sat just outside the play-off places.
Good luck
