Aston Villa meanwhile goes into this match with a poor home record against Arsenal. They have to date just managed to win 2 of their last 12 home games against The Gunners in the Premiership. On top of that Villa will not want to face Arsenal at this time after The Gunners just thrashed Portsmouth 4-0 in their last match at Highbury.
David O' Leary's side who have just managed one win in their previous five matches will hope that Arsenal have a bad day or the fact that they have lost five away games from home comes back to haunt them on this New Year's Eve day. Also O'Leary will hope that with the absence of Gilberto Silva due to a groin injury will weakened the Gunners midfield.
Francesc Fabregas will most likely come in for the injured Gilberto and will likely partner Frenchman Mathieu Flamini after his impressive display against Portsmouth. Arsene Wenger is likely to go with the 4-4-2 formation here after the return of Robin van Persie after a minor injury.
In attack it will be a toss up between Dennis Bergkamp or Jose Antonio Reyes to partner Thierry Henry after both were on target against Pompey. In defence, Pascal Cygan will keep his spot as Ashley Cole and Gael Clichy are still out ona long term basis. The remaining back four will consist of Sol Campbell, Kolo Toure and Lauren.
As for Villa, they are badly hit by injuries so david O' leary is likely to go with Milan Baros and Juan Pablo Angel upfront as Kevin Philips is out injured. Midfielders Patrik Berger (knee) and Lee Hendrie (Achilles) are also out of this clash which means that Gareth Barry will have to play in defence here.
