Bolton Wanderers
Bolton continued with their unbeaten run by picking up a point against Burnley at the weekend but it was not enough to take them out of the relegation zone. This game is best described as a 6 pointer for both of these sides.
The Trotters may be 18th in the table, but results on Monday have not really been too damaging to them, especially with 17th placed West Ham losing 2-0. Bolton are 2-3-4 at home where they have scored 14 goals and conceded 19. A big concern for Gary Megson will be the fact that they are yet to keep a clean sheet this season at home or away.
Bolton have only had 1 defeat in their last 5 games, but conversely they have only won 1 of those games. Bolton have picked up 4 points from their last 2 games at home and would have been especially boosted by the 3 points they picked up from the win over West Ham.
Fabrice Muamba is back from suspension. Gavin McCann is likely to miss out again.
Hull City
Hull played very well against Manchester United on Sunday and were more than unfortunate to lose 1-3. The result left them in the relegation zone, but like Bolton, results on Monday mean that they are far from buried yet.
The Tigers are in 19th spot in the Premier League with the same 17 point total as Bolton, 1 point from the safety of 17th. Hull have a poor goal difference which may cost them an 'extra point' come the end of season. Hull are 0-2-7 away from home where they have scored 5 and conceded 24. Only Burnley have also failed to win away from home this season and Hull have the 18th worst away defence in the Premier League.
Hull have lost 3 of their last 4 games since the loss of Jimmy Bullard and have only 1 goal since then. They have lost 6 of their last 7 away games in the Premier League and they have only scored 1 goal in their last 5.
Seyi Olofinjana is missing due to involvement in the African Cup of Nations.
Head to Head
These 2 sides have both won 1 game each and there has been 1 draw in their 3 recent meetings.
The corresponding fixture ended 1-1 last season.
Prediction
Bolton will be looking to continue their good recent run and will know this is an important match to win. They have been scoring goals and have had to with their defence failing to keep clean sheets.
Hull have struggled for inspiration since the loss of Jimmy Bullard and for all of their good play on Sunday against United, they looked a bit shaky at the back. This is a tough away game for them and with a tough month ahead, they cannot really afford to lose.
I think the home team is going to really push Hull back in this game and I truly feel that they have played well enough in recent weeks to win this match. Bolton have looked suspect at the back this season, but I think they will win with their first clean sheet of the season.
