Chelsea are top of the Premier League table with a perfect record, and have cruised into the knock-out stages of the Champions League, but it's not all plain sailing for the Blues.
Chelsea actually have not won in their last three games, being dumped out of the Carling Cup by Blackburn on penalties, then losing 1-2 at Manchester City in the league (after missing a late penalty), and then conceding a late goal to draw 2-2 at home to Cypriot side Nicosia in the Champions League.
Still - it doesn't seem likely that run of results will extend to another game does it?
Chelsea Team News :
Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien is out for up to four weeks after injuring his hamstring against Apoel Nicosia.
Deco misses out because his father is ill, while Alex and Salomon Kalou may return against Portsmouth on Wednesday.
Injured / unavailable : Alex (hip), Bosingwa (knee), Deco (personal reasons), Essien (hamstring), Kalou & Sturridge (thigh)
Everton (15th) Away : 2-0-5 8:13
Everton put an end to a losing streak last week, winning 1-0 in Athens in the Europa League, and then coming back from two goals down against Spurs on the weekend to earn a precious point.
But it came at a cost with Joseph Yobo only lasting 15 minutes before hobbling off with a hamstring injury that might take a month to heal.
Everton Team News :
Everton's injury-ravaged squad mean they are likely to be without all three centre-backs and Tim Cahill's suspension adds to their problems.
Doubtful : Distin & Gosling (both hamstring)
Injured : Anichebe, Arteta, Jagielka, Neville & Vaughan (all knee), Osman (foot), Yobo (hamstring)
The Betting Verdict
Everton have a very good record at Stamford Bridge over the last six years, with four draws, including the last three years in a row.
However, taking on Chelsea without an established centre-back does not seem to be a receipe for success, and I think that the home side will have too much quality.
