Shrewsbury Town welcome relegation-haunted Grimsby Town to their Prostar Stadium when the two sides meet on Saturday.
Shrewsbury Town (9th)
The Shrews have strung together a decent run of form at home recently; they’ve only lost one out of the last seven matches at home, and that was to Port Vale 0-1, Vale defender John McCombe scoring the only goal of the game.
Since then, Shrewsbury have beaten the likes of Aldershot Town 3-1 and Rotherham United 2-0, amidst two draws, seeing them to within touching distance of the play-off places in League Two.
If they want to be taken seriously as play-off candidates, then they should sink the Mariners at home.
The Shrews’ home record stands at 5-3-2 17:8 and have a good defensive record which was on show in their last home fixture against Rotherham.
Striker Dave Hibbert (8 goals) is their top scorer, while midfielder Kevin McIntyre (6 assists) is the main provider.
Grimsby Town (23rd)
Poor old Grimsby Town have gone twelve league matches without a win (home & away), whilst their current away form has seen them winless in their last six.
They have however gained draws at Northampton Town, Lincoln City & Macclesfield Town, but these were all 0-0 draws and Grimsby have not scored an away goal since their 1-3 defeat at Bournemouth at the end of October.
Indeed, goals have been hard to come by in general with only Lincoln City (12 goals) and Darlington (10 goals) scoring fewer goals than Grimsby home & away.
As poor as Grimsby's dismal away record reads; 2-3-5 7:15, it’s hard to see them pulling away from the relegation places as their home form is even worse 1-3-6 8:19.
The Betting Verdict
Three points are here for the taking for the home side, and I believe Shrewbury with the play-off carrot dangling in front of them should have enough about them to win.
