2009-12-12 - Chesterfield vs Cheltenham Town

Football : England : Coca Cola League Two
Saturday 12th December 2009 – Kickoff 15:00
Chesterfield will be keen to get back to winning ways at their Recreation Ground when they host lowly Cheltenham Town on Saturday.
Chesterfield (7th)
The Spireites had strung a six-match winning streak at home prior to the visit of Crewe Alexandra, and this run was rudely interrupted with the Railwaymen beating the hosts 3-2.
However, this weekend’s visitors do not possess the same type of firepower as Crewe – in fact quite the opposite, but let’s firstly take a closer look at Chesterfield’s home record.
Despite their loss to Crewe, they still boast the best home record in League Two with the stats of 8-1-1 with at 25:12 goal difference – and I believe there’s some value to be had here with the home win.
Okay, Chesterfield lost away to Aldershot Town last weekend, but the Shots are also in the mix for a play-off spot and also have a fair record at home too.
The Spireites will also want to consolidate their play-off position before they travel to Port Vale and then host high-flying Rotherham United in what promises to be a cracker.
Chesterfield have no problems finding the net either with only Notts County (26gls) outscoring them at home.
Cheltenham Town (20th)
Town have only registered a meager seven goals on their travels to date, and it would be no surprise to know that they have not won an away game in six matches.
To add insult to injury, they have not scored in their last two away matches, losing to Morecambe and Torquay United 1-0 & 3-0 respectively.
This is a very different side that managed an excellent 1-0 away win at Rochdale third game of the season, but how quickly things can change in football and their confidence must be at a low ebb right now.
Their away record now reads 2-4-4 7:16 and it is the lack of away goals that has prevented me from going for another Over 2.5 in this fixture.
The Betting Verdict
So, given Cheltenham’s poor run of form, I can see some value in backing Chesterfield at home for a nice return.
