Redskins, Cowboys Renew Rivalry
Washington Redskins @ Dallas Cowboys
Football : United States : NFL
Sunday 22nd November 2009 - Kickoff 1pm ET
Sports betting fans will get a taste of one of the better rivalries in the NFL as the Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys collide on Sunday.
For the most part, these teams play very close contests so NFL betting handicappers should think twice before betting the big point spread one way or another in this contest.
The Redskins have truly been spiraling downhill for a full year now as they were 6-3 after nine games last year but have just five wins (and 14 losses) since. They are currently the worst team in the NFC East while the Cowboys currently sit atop the division.
The Cowboys are the better team in this contest – there is no question. But as we know, the Cowboys don’t always play up to expectations. Case and point: after the Cowboys had scored 121 in their previous four games (30.3 per game), they scored just seven in Green Bay last week.
For the Cowboys, they have to get back to their roots and that is running the football. If they can power their way through the Redskins front seven and keep the balance on offense, they should win this game rather easily.
The Redskins may be shorthanded on offense this weekend as running back Clinton Portis will be out of this game. The Redskins have struggled on offense last year but somehow managed to muster up 27 points against a quality Denver Broncos defense.
This week, the Redskins will face a hot defense in Dallas so expect a lot of the deficiencies that we have seen earlier in the year.
For Dallas, they may catch a break this week as the Redskins best defensive lineman, Albert Haynesworth, is nursing a bum ankle and will be a game-time decision. If he can’t play, the Cowboys task of running the football becomes significantly easier.
The Redskins gave up seven plays of 30 yards or longer in the past three games and the Cowboys have proven to be an explosive offense.
The Betting Verdict
The Cowboys may have had a letdown last week but they won’t against the Redskins.
For the most part, the Redskins beat themselves with sloppy play so as long as the Cowboys don’t help them out with turnovers, they’ll win comfortably.
