The Seattle Seahawks season might be finished, for all intents and purposes. They had a chance to get within one game of the NFC West lead when they played in Arizona last week but the Seahawks came up short.
The Seahawks were leading most of the way but eventually choked it away and now they are in a position where they might not be all that into this week’s contest.
Sports betting handicappers know that motivation is a very important factor for NFL teams and the Seahawks, at 3-6, the Seahawks are virtually finished in both the NFC West and the NFC Wild Card playoff race.
Sportsbook odds makers have made the Seahawks such a big underdog this week because of that factor and because of the fact that the Seahawks are playing their second of back-to-back road games. Beyond that, they are on the road facing what might be the best team in the NFC.
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Vikings are at home in their own comfortable dome and they should have a very easy time with the hapless Seahawks.
The Seahawks have quite a bit of a conundrum on their hands this week. They are coming off a performance in which they allowed one of the worst rushing teams in the NFL to pick up 122 yards on 26 rushing attempts including two touchdowns. Now they are up against one of the best running backs in the NFL in Adrian Peterson.
While the Seahawks offense has been finding some consistency in recent weeks, they have been struggling on defense. Part of the problem is that linebacker Lofa Tatupu is out for the year.
The Seahawks gave up nearly 500 yards of offense to the Cardinals last week and now they face the Vikings, who are hitting on all cylinders.
The Vikings have a potential league MVP on their hands in Brett Favre and combined with Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin, two young receivers that have really developed, the Vikings have become a two-dimensional juggernaut.
The Betting Verdict
This is a bad spot for the Seahawks, who may feel like they don’t have much to play for. Look for them to get blown out for a second week in a row.
