Peter Crouch will start this match alongside Robbie Keane as Defoe serves a three match suspension. Wilson Palacios will return to midfield after he arrived back late from International duty. That means that either Jermaine Jenas or Tom Huddlestone will have to make way for Palacios here. Ledley King and Sebastien Bassong will continue their partnership at centre back as Jonathan Woodgate build up his match fitness.
As for the visitors Stoke, they have done well this season as they are not in the relegation zone and come into this match after a 2-1 win over West Ham in their last match propelling them to 9th spot in the standings.
But it will not be easy for Stoke as they have had three away draws and could be on the receiving end here. They will miss the services of Robert Huth who has been hit by a three match suspension by the FA after his clash with Matthew Upson. Andy Wilkinson is likely to be given Huth spot after arriving from Middlesbrough and will slot in at right back. In midfield we are likely to see Glenn Whelan starting after his exploits with Republic of Ireland. Liam Lawrence who also plays for the Republic of Ireland is rated doubtful with a virus.
