2009-09-26 - Tottenham vs Burnley

Football: England, Premier League 2009/2010
saturday, 26th September 2009 - Kickoff 15:00
Tottenham (6th) Home 2-0-1 5:5
Harry Redknapp’s side started the season well with four wins from four games but suffered a setback when they lost to Manchester United and Chelsea in their last two Premier League games. Harry would definitely want his side to pick up three points here today as they continue to push for a Champions League spot next season.
The score line in midweek, a 5-1 win over Preston in the League Cup reflects that Spurs send out a rather strong team. Crouch who scored a hat-trick in midweek should get the call up to start up front once again. Crouch has been handy for Redknapp this season as this height gives him the advantage to beat the defenders and head in from close range.
Redknapp will be without Giovanni Dos Santos once again as the injury-prone Mexican international injured himself in midweek. Roman Pavlyunchenko, Luca Modric, Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate are all out while Sebastian Bassong is doubtful for the game.
Carlo Cudicini should retain his place in goal protected by Vedran Corluka, Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone or Alan Hutton and Gareth Bale in defense. In midfield, Jermaine Jenas and Wilson Palacious will start at the heart of midfield leaving Aaron Lennon and Robbie Keane on the flanks. Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch should start up front.
With both English forwards in lethal form this season, Redknapp will stick with his preferred big-small combination up front pushing Keane out to midfield. Not an ideal place for Keane but with his intelligent play, he should cause the Burnley defense some problem.
Burnley (9th) Away 0-0-3 0:9
Burnley has performed above expectations this season. Credit has to be given to this team as they have obtained 9 points from a possible 18 and winning against Manchester United. However, Burnley has won 3 out of three games at home BUT lose all three away games this season without scoring!
Owen Coyle is without four players more notably influencial Chris Mccann and Steven Caldwell. Jensen and Martin Paterson both pick up knocks in midweek and are both doubtful to make the trip.
David Nuggent impressed last weekend by scoring a goal and Coyle might start him alongside Steven Fletcher once again. In midfield, Chris Eagles, Joey Gudjonsson and Kevin Mcdonald and Robbie Blake should form a midfield four while Mears, Carlisle, Graham Alexander and Kalvenes should start in defense protecting Diego Penny.
The Betting Verdict :
With Spurs slipping to defeat in their previous two games, Harry’s side should be hungry for a win and I believe they would be fully determined.
In addition, Burnley have yet to score an away goal this season make it an obvious choice to back Spurs.
