A Sports Betting Pick by Caged
Football: England, Premier League 2009/2010
JJB Stadium
Saturday 26th September 2009 3pm
Wigan Athletic (Home 1-0-2 1:6)
A 2-0 victory on the opening day at Villa Park must have left Roberto Martinez thinking premier league management is easy.
But as time goes on the Spaniards ambitions of expressive football at the JJB dont appear to be matched by the ability in his squad and things are unravelling.
A 1-0 win at home to struggling West Ham is the only other points the Latics have managed since that Villa result.
Wigan's home form looks very poor, although it is worth remembering that one of those games was a 5-0 rout at home to Man United.
Last time out Wigan were humped 4-0 at Arsenal, and if these two results are any indicator of how Wigan perform against the top sides then they will not be looking forward to the visit of Chelsea.
Chelsea (Away 3-0-0 7:2)
One look at Chelsea's form is all you need ... six wins from six games.
Having said this, Spurs at home and Stoke away are the toughest opposition they have come up against so far, but Chelsea haven't dropped too many points at all since Hiddink arrived last season.
Ancelotti is a different manager, he seems to leave the players to sort things out on the pitch for themselves (which does beg the question what he actually does).
But so far it seems to be working and the camp looks happy. It is hard to come up with a convincing argument why Wigan would put an end to the Chelsea juggernaut.
Head to head
Chelsea have won here on the last four occasions.
There was a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge in 2007/08, but that is the only time Wigan have taken any points at all from the Blues.
The Betting Verdict
This is tilted so far in Chelsea's favour its almost too good to be true.
It's not rocket science, and it won't make anyone rich, but the away win is very likely.
