Saturday 26th September 2009 - Kickoff 3pm
Liverpool (Home 2-0-1 9-3)
After a faltering start to the season with two defeats to Villa and Spurs, Liverpool have had a kind last three fixtures in Bolton, Burnley and West Ham.
Liverpool duly obliged with three wins on the bounce, but there is no doubt that they are missing Alonso's drive in midfield and they have also looked a little ropey at the back.
In recent years Liverpool have not been trustworthy at home at short odds, but there are signs that they are improving on this,
The big stars were rested in the grinding win at Elland Road in the Carling Cup in midweek.
Hull City (Away 0-1-2 3-7)
Hull have won one game this season, at home to Bolton a month ago, but apart from that they have barely troubled the wins column this calender year.
Away from home Hull look particularly vulnerable and there are rumours that Phil Brown may not be in post for much longer.
City have shipped 5 goals at home to Spurs and four goals at Sunderland already this year and had a demoralising thumping at home to Everton in the Carling Cup in midweek.
A trip to Anfield to face a fresh Gerrard and Torres is all they need at the moment.
Head to head
Just two relevant recent results. Last season Liverpool failed to oblige at very short odds when drawing this game 2-2.
The reverse fixture at Hull at the end of the season finished 1-3 to Liverpool.
The Betting Verdict
Liverpool always make me nervous at short odds, and this game was a draw last year. But Hull look in real trouble which makes it almost impossible to justify investment in anything but a home win.
It is tempting to use the handicaps to inflate the odds, if Liverpool can break the deadlock early against a Hull side so low on confidence they could run up a good score.
But memories of the dour 1-0 win over Debrecen (in which Liverpool were expected to get a cricket score) havent faded. I will just be taking the 1.17 on the home win.
