Football: Republic of Ireland, Premier League 2009
Tuesday 1st September 2009 - KO 7.45pm
DERRY CITY (3rd) Home Rec : W6 D3 L3
Derry face Galway as they aim for their fourth consecutive win in the league. They sit 11 points behind leaders Bohs with 11 games to go. Its unlikely that they will catch them but they are fighting for European spots with Shamrock Rovers and Cork City.
Derry have become the latest club in the league of Ireland to be hit with financial woes. They have been forced to make pay cuts and also have already began to release players as midifielder Mark Mcrysthal left by mutual consent at the weekend.
But they are determind to remain a full time set up but will certainly be making more cuts before season is out. However Derry still have a strong squad and if not for some inconsistency during the season they would be much closer to challenging for the title.
Derry are out of all cups so will be focused only on the league. They won 1-0 on friday with a late winner at Bray and have not conceded a goal in their last 3 league games. On their day they are as good as any side and will be expected to win this game.
Derry are missing some players through injury. Midfielder Kevin Deery misses with knee problems, striker Sam Morrow misses out with an ankle injury, Ciaran Martyn (groin) and Stephen Gray (back) also miss out.
DERRY CITY LAST 5
Shamrock Rovers 2-1 Derry City
Sligo Rovers 0-4 Derry City
Sligo Rovers 1-0 Derry City (FAI Cup)
Derry City 1-0 St Patricks
Bray Wanderers 0-1 Derry City
GALWAY UNITED (7th) Away Rec : W4 D2 L6)
Galway have got sucked back into the relegation battle after 3 defeats in a row. They had got a few wins which moved them into mid table but are back in the wrong half of table. They had started the season quite well with only 1 defeat in 5 but then went on a run of 5 defeats and 1 draw.
But they got a few vital wins over fellow strugglers Bray Wanderers and a 1-0 win over Sligo Rovers. But Ian Fosters side have lost the last 3 and that included a 5-0 hammering at Bohs 2 weeks ago. On Friday they lost 1-0 at home to Shamrock Rovers and it should have been alot more as Rovers missed a host of chances. Scoring goals has become a problem too for Galway especially as star player Jay O Shea left 2 weeks ago to join Premiership side Birmingham City.
Galway will also be without a few players for this game. Iarflaith Davoren is out with a hamstring problem, Derek O Brien (shoulder) and Shane Fitgerald are also doubts. Although Derry are also missing players, they do have a much stronger squad and Galway will be up against it here.

Bohs 5-0 Galway
