2009-05-24 - Celtic vs Hearts

A Sports Betting Pick by Stephen

Celtic v Hearts Of Midlothian
Football: Scotland, Scottish Premier League
Sunday, 24th May 2009 - Kickoff 13:00

Celtic need a win and to hope that Rangers slip up at Dundee United while Hearts who are guaranteed third spot will be out to spoil the party as Celtic chase their fourth title in a row.

CELTIC (Home Rec : W14 D3 L1)

Coming into 2009 Celtic were 7 points clear of Rangers and really shouldn't be in the position of chasing their great rivals. However an indifferent run of form early in the year which saw them lose at Aberdeen and drop points at places such as Motherwell and Inverness has them 2 points behind arch rivals Rangers going into the lasts day of the season.

However Celtic's form of late especially at home has been mostly very good and they have won 5 games in a row at home. 4 of those have been victories by 2 or more goals.

Celtic must win to have a chance of winning the title so we can expect all out attack from Gordon Strachan's side. Celtic have lost only once at home this season, back in August against Rangers and have been mostly very impressive at home, although Hearts did hold them to a draw at Parkhead before Christmas.

Scott Brown and Gary Caldwell are expected to overcome knocks to be fit for this huge game but Skipper Stephen Mcmanus misses out.

HEARTS (Away Rec : W5 D5 L8)

Hearts beat Dundee United by a 3-0 scoreline last week to ensure third spot and European football for next season. They may have nothing to play for on Sunday but im sure they would love to spoil the party for Celtic.

Csaba Lazslo has had a good first season in charge and his side have managed some great results, including beating Rangers at Tynecastle and holding both Rangers and Celtic to draws away from home.

However Hearts away form has not always been good enough and they have managed just 5 wins on the road. Recently they have failed to score in 5 of their last 7 away games. With Celtic going for the championship, you would have to feel the Hearts may be in for a tough afternoon.

Hearts task is not made any easier with the absence of key players. Andrew Driver, Laryea Kingson and Ruben Palazuelos miss out through injury while Christian Nade could miss out as he prepares for a hernia operation.

THE BETTING VERDICT

Its a CELTIC WIN for me and it may be enough to clinch the title. Hearts can make it difficult but Celtic should have too much.
