UEFA Cup
2009-03-12 - Manchester City vs Aalborg
A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser
Analysis:Manchester City will aim to do what their more illustrious neighbour Manchester United failed to do and that is to beat Aalborg when they clash tonight for the first leg of their last 16 clash in the UEFA Cup.
The Red Devils could only managed a 2-2 draw with Aalborg at Old Trafford in their final fixture before the Danish side were relegated to the UEFA Cup.
Mark Hughes knows that he has to keep the English flag flying after all the other English teams were knocked out in the UEFA Cup and they are now the sole English representative in the last 16. This is also their best chance to end a 33 year wait for a silverware this season.
Aalborg cannot be taken lightly as they have beaten Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna 6-1 on aggregate. However, City goes into this match looking to beat their third Danish side after beating FC Midtjylland and FC Copenhagen to reach this far of the competition.
With regards to the team news, Mark Hughes has been boosted by the news that Brazilian Robinho has overcome the ankle injury which forced him to miss last week's 2-0 win over Aston Villa and will feature for tonight's clash.
However, Craig Bellamy will be out still after suffering a knee injury in the 1-0 defeat at the hands of his former club West Ham in February.
And with the likes of Vincent Kompany (toe) struggling and January signing Nigel de Jong who is not eligible as he was not registered for the competition, Hughes has a dilemma who to put on in midfield. Also cause for concern will be the fact that Micah Richards and Pablo Zabaleta are just one booking away from suspension if they receive another yellow card.
The visitors have three players on a yellow card and they are Aalborg's Jeppe Curth, Thomas Enevoldsen and Michael Jakobsen, who all risk missing the return leg if they get booked today. Aalborg do have several players who have played in English football and they include the likes of Wigan midfielder Andreas Johansson, ex-Sheffield United striker Luton Shelton and former Wimbledon defender Kjetil Waehler.
Take Manchester City and give the 1 ball away here.
Cheers and good luck,
