2008-12-13 - Middlesbrough vs Arsenal
A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser
Analysis:Even though Arsenal have struggled on their travels this season, but this is one game they need to win if they hope to catch the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool above them in the standings.
Middlesbrough will be having other ideas as they look to extend their unbeaten record against Arsene Wenger's side. Interestingly when Southgate took charge three of the four matches have ended in a 1-1 draw, while Boro defeated the Gunners 2-1 at home last season.
However, as it stands now Middlesbrough lies 12th in the standings and have not won in their last four games. Middlesbrough will still hope to cause an upset as the visitors have struggled on their trips to The Riverside managing to put just one goal at the back of the net in their last five visits in all competitions.
Arsenal managed back to back wins for their first time since October, but their performance is still very inconsistent.
The home side will have some problems at the back as they enter this match as David Wheater is suspended while there are doubts over full-backs Andrew Taylor and former Gunner Justin Hoyte. The likes of Robert Huth and Chris Riggott are on standby if Taylor and Hoyte fails to make the cut. Captain Emanuel Pogatetz will then move to left-back, leaving Tony McMahon, Matthew Bates and Seb Hines to compete for the right back slot.
The home side also have casualty in midfield with Gary O'Neil missing. Mohamed Shawky has returned from injury but at best will start from the bench. Upfront with Mido still doubtful we will see the pair of Afonso Alves partnering Tuncay Sanli.
For the Gunners, they will have captain Cesc Fabregas back for this match. Thus we will see Denilson and Alexandre Song fighting for a starting berth with Fabregas starting in centre midfield. The likes of Gael Clichy, Robin van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor are likely to be brought back in after missing the midweek loss against Porto in the Champions League.
The Gunners are still missing the likes of Defender Kolo Toure and midfielder Samir Nasri remain sidelined, along with Eduardo and long-term absentee Tomas Rosicky.
