Football: England, Premier League
Saturday, 13th December 2008 - Kickoff 15:00
Liverpool (1st - Home : 5-3-0 11:4)
Liverpool without Fernando Torres are a bit of a blunt instrument, and this was pretty much obvious in Liverpool's last two home fixtures with scoreless draws against both Fulham and West Ham.
But Rafa Benitez's side have had the luxury of resting key players in midweek and we could see Torres and Gerrard returned to the starting line-up on Saturday for this game.
Liverpool are not a natural selection for goal excitement, as they're usually very tight at the back, and with a GD of 11-4 in the first 8 games that's an average of under 2 goals per game at home.
But the Reds are a bit patchy, it's either goal fest or goal famine at Anfield, and they've still gone over the 2.5 total on half their matches.
Liverpool Team News :
Captain Steven Gerrard, midfielder Xabi Alonso, goalkeeper Jose Reina and forward Dirk Kuyt are all expected to return for league leaders Liverpool.
Fernando Torres is out injured while full-back Fabio Aurelio is back in training but will not be involved.
Hull City (6th - Away 4-3-1 15:10)
The most stunning thing about Hull's start to the Premier League has been their ability to score goals away from home and pick up points.
With just one defeat in their first eight games, and that defeat being a 3-4 loss at Old Trafford to Might Manchester United, it's clear to see that Hull like to "have a go" in their first season in the big league.
The wins have dried up a little bit, but Hull are still scoring plenty of goals on the road, and their season total of 15 away goals is only bettered by Chelsea.
Hull City Team News :
Striker Marlon King will continue to lead the Hull line despite being arrested earlier this week.
But Andy Dawson and Caleb Folan miss out as they continue to recover from their respective injuries.
PRELIMINARY VERDICT
This game has the feel of goals about it, with some of Liverpool's key players well rested and Hull City unlikely to change their aggressive game plan.
The bookmakers are also slightly favouring a high goal tally, but you can still get over 1.80 (4/5) at some places for 3+ goals, and that's a bet that I will take quickly.
