2008-11-09 - Aston Villa vs Middlesbrough
A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser
Analysis:Aston Villa did well in midweek in their UEFA Cup to beat Slavia Prague considering that they were beaten by Newcastle United last weekend. That will surely lift their confidence as well as mood going into this match with Boro.
That win in Prague ended the Czech's unbeaten run of 14 games with a slim 1-0 win thanks to a John Carew's effort. That was a good response considering they had their four match unbeaten run ended by the Magpies when they lost 2-0 on Monday Night Football at St. James's Park.
Aston Vila comes into this match with a good home record, that is they have won three and drawn two of their previous Premier League encounters at home. As it is now they are 9 points below Liverpool who hammered WBA 3-0 yesterday.
They will face a Boro side who are unbeaten in their last three games, since losing to Chelsea 5-0 at home. Boro are unbeaten in their last two away games as they have managed a 1-1 draw at Blackburn followed by the excellent 1-0 victory at the JJB Stadium over Wigan, their first away win of the season!
Southgate must decide as to who partners Turkey international Tuncay Sanli, who is almost certain to retain his place in attack after his recent impressive showing. It will be a toss up between Afonso Alves and top scorer Mido for that role. Mido did come off the bench to score against West Ham last weekend so he could get the nod here though.
Justin Hoyte will start at right-back, pushing David Wheater to the bench, while Julio Arca is set to replace Didier Digard in central midfield for this fixture.
As for Villa, O Neil's made at least six changes since the defeat to Newcastle. Goalkeeper Brad Friedel, captain Martin Laursen, in-form Gareth Barry, Nigel Reo-Coker and Luke Young were all on the bench and is set to get a recall in place of Brad Guzan, Zat Knight, Curtis Davies, Craig Gardner and Moustapha Salifou.
James Milner who was out is hopeful to be back for this match. Steve Sidwell will keep his place if he does not recover in time. However, midfielder Stiliyan Petrov is rated doubtful after missing the Newcastle and Sparta games with a hamstring strain.
Take Aston Villa to win this match.
Cheers and good luck,
