2008-11-05 - Arsenal vs Fenerbahce
A Sports Betting Pick by Gooner
ARSENAL
Arsenal have had their problems over the last seven days, with poor results, and some key injuries, and look a little battle weary for this game tonight.
But it shouldn't come as any surprise to regular readers of my picks, who will be sick and tired of me going on about how Arsenal's squad is too young and too small to compete on multiple fronts.
I expect to see Arsenal go all out for a win here tonight, it could be enough to clinch qualification, and then allow the Gunners to concentrate on domestic challenges until next February.
Arsenal still have the weapons to score goals, and they probably will need 2-3 goals tonight to subdue Fenerbahce.
FENERBAHCE
Fenerbahce are also having their problems this season, failing to come to terms with new manager Luis Aragones style of play, and Fener are currently in 9th place in the Tukish Super Ligi.
TEAM NEWS
Arsenal News :
Arsenal have a serious injury crisis, with only 15 regulars available.
Forwards Theo Walcott (shoulder) and Emmanuel Adebayor (ankle) are out after picking up their injuries in Saturday's Premier League defeat at Stoke.
Skipper William Gallas (hamstring) and fellow defender Emmanuel Eboue (knee) are out, as are long-term absentees Tomas Rosicky and Eduardo.
However, right-back Bacary Sagna looks set to feature after recovering from an ankle problem.
Arsenal Squad :
Almunia, Fabianski, Sagna, Toure, Silvestre, Djourou, Clichy, Diaby, Fabregas, Nasri, Denilson, Ramsey, Song, van Persie, Vela, Bendtner, Wilshere, Gibbs, Randall.
Fenerbahce News :
The Turkish side suffered a setback with the loss of captain Alex to a thigh strain. Fortunately Deivid is available to fill the playmaking role.
HEAD TO HEAD
Arsenal won the first clash a fortnight ago, beating Fenerbahce 5-2 in Istanbul.
The clubs' only previous encounter prior to this season came in the 1979/80 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup first round.
Arsenal emerged 2-0 aggregate winners after goals from Alan Sunderland and Willie Young earned them victory at Highbury prior to a goalless draw in Istanbul.
THE VERDICT
When these two sides met last time the score could easily have been 5-4, or even perhaps 8-7, and with Fenerbahce desperately seeking a win we could have another goal fest.
