Portsmouth (6th EPL)

This has to be classed as the best season that Portsmouth have had for many a year and more than likely the best that any living Portsmouth fans has known. The team are sixth in the top flight and only four points from Everton in fifth and last weekend saw a FA Cup semi win against WBA and a another trip to Wembley for the Cup Final and not many if any Portsmouth fans would have predicted that at the start of the season.
At home this season it has not all be plain sailing and a record of 7-7-2 show where the problems lie and that is far to many draws but in saying that this problem has gone away in recent weeks with a record of 5-1-0 in the last six games. In fact the only team that Portsmouth have failed to beat in the last six games was Chelsea who they drew with 1-1.
The only real problem people might have with Portsmouth is how the players will now react with the cup final only five weeks away but this didn’t seem to bother them during the week when they went to Upton Park and came away with a 1-0 victory so maybe the threat of losing their cup final place may also mean that Portsmouth finish the season strong and fifth place may just be earned.
Newcastle United (12th EPL)
Played 33 with 38 points
Keegan finally got his season off and running a couple of weeks ago and now Newcastle cannot stop wining and three on the bounce have now come their way. The big question now is can they keep it going and finish of the season on a high after what has been an awful season for them.
Relegation will now be something that Tyneside can move on from after being one of the many teams who a few back were flirting with the drop but after these three wins on the trot this should see any threat of this disappear.
Away from home has now seen them go unbeaten in the last two games with a great win at Spurs the other week by 4-1 and a draw with Birmingham 1-1. However all the teams they have beaten in the last three games are teams who are in the bottom half of the table so it will be interesting how they fare against teams higher up the league table.
While there is still plenty to play for and no more so that just to keep the smile on the faces of the people of Tyneside over the summer and the rebuilding begins, however failure to build on the last three games will mean that the summer could be a rough one. So there is still plenty to play for the Magpies.
Head to Head
Not the best place to visit for Newcastle who have not won at Frattan Park anytime on the record I could find. Also as the stats below show three of the last four have been draws with Portsmouth winning 2-1 last season.
Verdict
My first thought on this game would be that a draw would be the way to go, but this more to do with the last three games for Newcastle than anything else. Also I have to admit not really knowing that Portsmouth had such a good recent home record.
Also when you then factor in that Newcastle don’t do very well away at Portsmouth it starts becoming a Portsmouth win and that’s the way I'm going to go. While Newcastle are unbeaten in their last two away games they did lose the four before that. I also think the price for Portsmouth is a little cracker and well worth the punt.
